Colonel Robert B. Romines had an outstanding career as a DUSTOFF
aviator and professional officer. His performance as a DUSTOFF
aviator in combat is legendary. During his Vietnam tour with the
45th Med Co (AA), no one flew more hours, evacuated more patients,
took more hits from enemy fire or completed more evacuation
missions. He flew more than 1000 hours, completed 1471 missions
while evacuating 3620 patients. He’s remembered by his fellow
crewmembers as having no fear. As a DUSTOFF commander and chief of
the Medical Service Corps Career Activities Office no one has
inspired more young and future crewmembers. Numerous DUSTOFF
aviators were mentored positively by Bob and are now carrying on the
DUSTOFF traditions because of his mentorship. His awards and
decorations include the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross,
five awards of the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Air Medal with
30 oak leaf clusters. He is a Master Army Aviator and was awarded
the Expert Field Medical Badge. Bob Romines was inducted into the
DUSTOFF Hall of Fame on 1 March 2008. |
